CCSD Town Halls

Colleton County School District Town Hall Meetings - Feb. 7, 8, 10
Posted on 02/07/2022

Colleton County School District is joining other school districts around the state and nation in exploring the idea of a modified academic calendar for the school year in order to prevent student/teacher burnout, offer additional opportunities for academic remediation and to provide additional opportunities for our students. After receiving feedback from our stakeholders on what form of modified calendar they preferred over the months of December and January, CCSD is ready to begin the next steps of discussion.

To this end, CCSD will host a series of town halls offering more information on our modified calendar option. In addition to the discussion on the modified calendar, these town halls will also feature a presentation on the district’s plans for establishing a new sixth grade academy and our latest COVID-19 mitigation protocols.

Town hall attendees will be able to submit their questions on index cards to district staff during the event, or email their questions to [email protected].

The dates and locations for these town halls are listed below:

  • Colleton County High School Performing Arts Center (Capacity 152), Feb. 7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Hendersonville Elementary School Cafeteria (Capacity 77), Feb. 8 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Bells Elementary School Cafeteria (Capacity 86), Feb. 10 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Please note that town hall attendees must wear a mask at all times, undergo a temperature check, and practice social distancing.

After these town halls have been completed, CCSD stakeholders will be able to participate in a survey to voice their views on whether the district should adopt a modified calendar (Calendar Option 1) or remain with a traditional calendar (Calendar Option 3). This survey will be placed on our website and released via mass email on February 11.

Modified Calendars

Both a traditional calendar and a modified calendar have students attending school 180 days a year and teachers working 190 days a year, meeting the requirements of state statutes and law. A modified calendar allows for additional breaks during the school year to help balance time in school and breaks. After each nine weeks there would be a two-week break for students and staff with opportunities for extra academic support and enrichment.
