On the evening of Thursday, October 21, 2021, Northside Elementary School hosted its first Parent engagement UPLIFT session entitled, "Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies." The focus of this session was to share resources and activities to promote social-emotional, behavioral, and physical health for our students and families. Northside's Health and Wellness Committee, chaired by Nurse Melissa West and Coach Caleb Yaeger, facilitated this event.
County service providers and local businesses partnered with Northside to share their resources and information. Students and their families had the opportunity to participate in yoga, gymnastics, grappling, healthy snacking and portion control, as well as to learn about the importance of maintaining healthy dental hygiene, monitoring heart rate and blood pressure and vitamin intake.
Northside's Coach Yaeger challenged students and parents to a catch and move contest. Door prizes were awarded for families visiting all participating vendors. A great time was had by all and this event will be held again in the Spring of 2022.
Community Service Providers participating were: Vibrant Nutrition, Lowcountry Food Bank, Lowcountry Gymnastics, Lowcountry Grappling, Clemson Extension-4-H, Dawn Stuckey Helping Hands, Coastal Kids Dentistry.
